What is Indian Head Massage and what happens during it?

Indian Head Massage focuses on key areas where tension often builds, the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp, and face.  Using gentle pressure and rhythmic movements, this treatment works to stimulate pressure points, encourage healthy circulation, and support the natural flow of the lymphatic system.  As these areas are released, you’ll feel stress begin to melt away, leaving you calm, balanced, and deeply relaxed.  It’s also a beautiful way to support detoxification and help the body reset.

Who is it for?

I  currently offer treatments for women only.

As treatments are carried out on a massage bed, I am unable to treat during pregnancy.

Postpartum clients are welcome following their 6-week postnatal check, assuming recovery has been straightforward.

Certain medical conditions, medications, or recent surgeries may require medical approval before treatment can go ahead.

Treatments may not be suitable within 6 months of surgery.

It also supports stress relief, improves circulation, aids sinus congestion, encourages lymphatic drainage and detoxification, and helps reduce headaches and migraines. Regular treatments can increase energy levels, support a healthier scalp, and even stimulate hair growth. It’s a beautiful treatment for anyone seeking rest, balance, and reconnection, a gentle reset for when life feels full, or when you simply need a moment to come home to yourself.

Do I need to know anything about Ayurveda?

No.  You don’t need any prior knowledge, just come ready to receive gentle, nurturing care.

Can I have this treatment if I’m pregnant?

Accepted Answer

Indian Head Massage can be wonderfully supportive and safely received during pregnancy.  I was trained to offer this treatment during the second trimester, and I have previously offered this to pregnant clients.

However, after working with chair-based adaptations and regularly reconfiguring my studio, I have made the decision that this is not aligned with my life or practice at this time.

My focus for 2026 is stability and consistency.  I am choosing to work exclusively with a bed-based Indian Head Massage, allowing me to refine my skillset and offer the highest quality treatment within my current setup.  While I adapt treatments for individual client needs, my bed-based treatment is not suitable or comfortable during pregnancy.

My focus is on developing expertise in bed-based Indian Head Massage and working consistently within my current scope of practice.

For clear clarify, I am not currently offering this treatment to women who are pregnant.

Can I have this treatment if I am undergoing any kind of Cancer Treatment

No, sadly I would not be able to treat you.

However, there are Massage Therapist who are trained in Oncology Massage, and I would be happy to recommend someone to you.  Just reach out!  x

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

You can remain fully dressed if you prefer, as Indian Head Massage can be carried out over clothing. However, I use a massage table and warm oils for a more traditional experience, so you may wish to wear a vest or bandeau-style top to allow access to the shoulders, neck, and upper back.  Men may wear a vest or t-shirt, or be bare-chested if comfortable. You’ll always be draped with sheets or blankets to ensure you feel warm, comfortable, and completely safe throughout.

What do I need to bring or do?

You don’t need to bring anything.  A short consultation form will be sent to you prior to your appointment, and everything else will be provided for you.

When can I book it?

Accepted Answer

Anytime you feel ready after birth. Whether you’re days, weeks, or months into motherhood, this experience is there to support you.  If you have had an abdominal birth (c-section), you will need to wait until after your 6-week check in.
