INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

The Origin of Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage originates from the ancient health system of Ayurveda, meaning “the knowledge of life.”  Ayurveda is rooted in the understanding that mind, body, and soul are deeply connected and must remain in balance for overall wellbeing.

Practised within families in India for thousands of years and in the West since the 1970s, Indian Head Massage supports the release of tension held in the head, neck, shoulders, upper back, and arms.

It is based on a simple principle: when the body is supported to let go, the whole system can soften and return to balance.

Benefits of Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage helps calm the nervous system, supporting the body to move out of stress and into rest.

Many people experience improved sleep, reduced anxiety, fewer headaches, and a greater sense of mental clarity.  By increasing circulation to the scalp, head, and upper body, the massage can also release muscular tension in the neck, shoulders, jaw, and face, areas where stress commonly settles.

Because the nervous system influences the whole body, the effects of Indian Head Massage often extend beyond physical relaxation, supporting emotional balance and steadier energy levels.

What to expect from an Indian Head Massage with me...

MASSAGE BED

Performed on a massage bed, allows your body to relax completely.  This adaptation encourages deeper rest, releases tension more effectively, and allows your nervous system to fully shift into calm and balance, meaning you are in rest mode.

GROUNDING BREATHS

At the beginning of each session, you're invited to take some slow, intentional breaths, helping you to reconnect with your body.  This simple yet powerful practice prepares both mind and body, creating a sense of calm before the massage has even begun.

HAIR BRUSHING

Gentle hair brushing is a profoundly nurturing ritual, reminiscent of a mother soothing her child.  It stimulates nerve endings often neglected in adulthood, settling the nervous system and creating a feeling of care.
